Hockey is Expensive

It's no secret that hockey can be an expensive sport. OMGHA recognizes this and offers options to lessen the blow.

Personal Fundraising

OMGHA offers you a way to earn additional funds for the expected costs of hockey this year or to save for next year’s registration. The program is called Personal Fundraising.

How does the program work?

OMGHA has set up three different locations/opportunities for you to volunteer to work. Each location/opportunity offers its own level of reimbursement, schedule, and process for participation. All credits/reimbursements are processed through OMGHA and confidentially distributed back to you by voucher through your child’s team manager. You then use your voucher to help pay for registration and additional subsidy fees requested during your child’s hockey season. All Personal Fundraising participants must register with the Financial Assistance Coordinator in order to volunteer for any of these volunteer opportunities.

What are the locations/opportunities where I can volunteer to work? How do I participate in each?

The Osseo Arena concession stand manager uses Personal Fundraising volunteers to regularly open and/or close the concession stand throughout the hockey season. Volunteers are credited/reimbursed a set rate. Contact Peg Rogers/Osseo Arena Concession Manager - information on the OMGHA web site.

Maple Grove Community Center Ice Arena concessions are worked by OMGHA volunteers from September through April/May. The arena concession stands are open Monday through Friday, weekends as posted, and Maple Grove High School hockey games. Volunteers work four hour shifts (5:30-9:30 pm on weeknights, for example). Shift requirements include set-up (turn on machines, prepare hot dogs/etc., open cash register), product sales/service, clean up (floor, machines/etc.), and cash register close out. The number of volunteers working per shift ranges from one to seven, depending on the Ice Arena event. Volunteers sign up for and work shifts of their choice. The schedule of shifts to work is provided at the Community Center Ice Arena concession stand. Volunteers are responsible for signing up for shifts they wish to work. All volunteers must participate in a training prior to working at the Community Center Ice Arena concession stand. Volunteers are credited/reimbursed a set rate for their hours. Food Perspectives is a company who works with the food industry to set up and conduct consumer tests of food products. Food Perspectives will call participants with taste test dates, locations and screening questions to see if you “qualify” for that particular taste test (about 4 to 5 times a year). You may decline that test if the day and times do not work with your schedule. The amount paid for participating varies.
 
Each participant receives a portion of the total compensation for attending the test (ranging $10-$25) and the remaining amount is sent to OMGHA (ranging $6-$9). This opportunity is available year-round. Participants need to complete Food Perspectives’ data base form.
