2007 OMGHA Mite Scrimmage Rules and Guidelines
Parents Information
Time and Shift Format:
Half-ice.
Approximately ten minute skating and warm-up.
Three, fifteen minute, running-time periods.
One minute between periods.
Two minute shifts.
Minimal face-offs early in year. Keep the kids playing.
Lines and Team Formats:
Every skater will skate every position with a rotation that is consistent and agreed upon between coaches.
Coaches will discuss whether each team’s lines will be stratified based on experience, or mixed. If stratified, coaches will make best effort to match-up team-to-team lines prior to the scrimmage.
Stacking of lines or double shifting of players to “win” a Mite game is not tolerated.
If a scrimmage is being dominated by one team, coaches will try to make adjustments to try to keep scrimmage as balanced as possible. (ex. playing more experienced players in goal or defense, three-pass rule before shooting, adding an extra skater, etc.). Make best effort to not have lop-sided scrimmages.
Rules and Penalties:
Referees – One or two coaches per team on the ice acting as coach, cheerleader, and referee.
Scoring – There is no keeping of score on the scoreboard. There shall be no keeping of stats regarding scoring of any kind. No stats on wins, losses, goals. The mite-level objective is for players and parents to have fun and for players to get an opportunity to improve and try new skills.
Penalties – All intentional penalties will be called by whatever coach sees them. We will stop play, have a coach explain what he/she did wrong and get back to playing the game. If a player gets two intentional penalties for injury type infractions (slashing, checking, roughing, etc) the coaches will sit the player out for a longer time to explain the seriousness of what they are doing.
